Process

NAMI Activity

Little Booklet

T-Shirt Design

What was the process you followed to develop your ideas?

In the beginning of the Teen Brain Health project, we had to propose our own topic we would like to advocate for. The topic I chose was concussions because I had two concussions over the span of two weeks, so I would’ve wanted to learn about the affects it has on your brain.

After our proposals, we got put into randomly selected groups with our peers to come to a consensus and choose a topic we’d all advocate for. We wanted our topic to be on depression, and with our group, we had to create: a t-shirt design, a small booklet, and an informative activity. Some skills that I used were collaboration and communication.

Since you’re in a group, you obviously have to collaborate, but to be an effective group you have to communicate really well. A form of communication we often do is using a weekly agenda so we can keep up on each other’s tasks. I think that we were an efficient group because we were always working and helping each other out.

How did you combine your proposed TBH topic with your group's?

My topic was on concussions to the brain, Jose’s was exercise on the brain, Sofi was drugs, and Vanessa was depression. We tried to find a way to combine all our ideas together; then we came to a consensus. Concussions, exercise, and drugs, all relate to depression. Concussions can lead to depression, exercise is a way to cure depression, and drugs are associated with antidepressants.  So my group and I stuck to that idea, and we were passionate.
