Project Description
In this project, we studied about the science behind food. We then used that knowledge and used it with our groups we were assigned to cook with. Each group receives five mystery ingredients and has to cook a dish that will be presented to the judges on exhibition night. You can not use any outside information other than your mind.
What did we do?
During this project, the class had to make your own original recipes with your group. We also created a modernist cuisine poster that explains our dish. We learned about heat transfers, the candle lab, different mini cooking projects.
What did you learn?
What I learned in this project are the laws of cooking, such as sweet meets sour. The three different types of heat transfer, the reason why cooks use certain ingredients. Overall, I just just the science behind cooking.
What happened during exhibition?
I walked into the main commons with my group members and there were five judges sitting down in front of us. We presented our process video to them and after they tasted our dish; after that we informed them about the science behind our dish. They then gave us their feedback and what they thought about it.
What ingredients were you given? What recipe did you make?
My five mystery ingredients were: chorizo, button mushrooms, asparagus, feta cheese, and peaches. My group and I decided to create chorizo meatballs accompanied by a peach puree and a side of asparagus and feta cheese drizzled on them.

Reflection
What are some new things you learned how to do in this project?
I learned how to cook and I learned the science behind cooking. For example, the different types of heat transfers.
What are you most proud of from this project?
I am most proud of what my group accomplished. The judges told us we had the most difficult ingredients, but we tried to be creative to make a delicious dish. Then the judges told us we were the most creative so I am proud of that.
If you were to do this project/cook your recipe again, what would you do differently?
I would maybe think about the recipe more with my group because we were rushing throughout the planning of the dish.
