Humans of the South Bay is about interviewing average people about their history. History is usually made by the famous, rich, and powerful people; but what about the masses? We never hear their story, but now you will.
Pre-Interview Process
Before the interview, we had to look at models, we saw amazing examples from Story Corps and Ted Talk.
We then got into groups with our classmates and performed practice interviews. We gave each other critique on how we did the interview and the questions.
After that, we had to do background research about our interviewee so we know a little bit more of their past.
Finally, we came up with questions based off the research we did.

The Interview
I decided to interview my om because I always wanted to know about her past life such as, living in Japan and moving to America. I interviewed my mom at our house, and I recorded the interview with my phone.
We never felt awkward with each other because we are really comfortable with each other. She gave good answers and they weren't cut-off answers. The whole interview felt natural.

Golden Paragraph
My favorite part from the interview
My family are the most important people in my life, including you.
Nande? [Why]?
Because family is the most important. For example, we fight with somebody else, not family, maybe we don’t get along after the fight. But if I fight with family, when we fight we are very mad at each other but we quickly forgive each other. Because we are related, we have same blood. That’s why family always get together again, even if we fight. That is family.

Reflection
I chose to interview my mom because I've always wanted to know more about her history. She has lived in Japan and has started a new life in America, that seemed really interesting, so I decided to interview her.
I learned that moving to a new country you know nothing about is very difficult, but all you have to do is persevere. You can do anything, and that is what my mom did when she wanted to become a nurse.
When I interviewed my mom, she was very open to me and gave me really specific answers. So that meant she was comfortable with me, and that's always a good sign when you're interviewing someone.
Someone else that I would like to interview would be my dad because I know that he lived in Texas and had tons of struggles growing up. He had to dribe when he was 14, get a job to support his family, go to the navy so he can get free college. So I would like to interview my dad sometime.
