Eat Healthy, Healthy Brain

This week in biology class, we've been focusing on presenting our Teen Brain Health proposals. Each day, the students have been choosing the stigma and positive reframe words for each presentation. After completing a day of presentations, we would choose our top three proposals we were interested in. Today was the last day for presenting, so we chose our all time top three we wanted overall. I have chosen: exercise, nutrition, and concussions.

I've chosen the topic of nutrition because my New Year's resolution was to eat healthier and to also try to become active again. I know that it's healthy for your body to be fit; but I want to know is how these affect the brain. On a daily basis, I drink about 64 ounces of just water, and try to avoid any sugary drinks. I've keeping up with this plan for about two months now, and I feel a lot better about myself.

The spokesperson for the proposal, Dayan, and stated that, “The less you drink or eat something, the less you crave it.” By having some experience now, I can say I agree with her statement. I don't have a craving for soda anymore; whenever I'm offered soda, I don't want any.

One of the main takeaways I got from her presentation, was when she made a comparison between a nice car and a human’s brain. “If you have a nice car, you have to give it good and clean gas. Just like your expensive brain, you have to feed it nutritious and clean food.” If you don't feed it well, it can affect the memory of the brain, and learning from the brain.
